Merk, Is there a way to prevent new users from posting new topics? That way, they would go along with Barbara's rule of helping first, before asking for help. You could even set it at one or two reply posts, which would at least prevent the spammers from adding any.

I know you suggested this before, and it probably would cut down on the spam. But i think it would also cut down on either people participating or people would post their new topic in an existing topic. although.... i could make a sticky thread at the top of the general forum and people would have to make a reply to that post before they could do anything. I'll have to think about that. BTW, next time post this in the website comments forum please. Because i'll probably periodically delete all the replies to this thread since we dont need a million posts with links to deleted spam posts ;)

It is usually easier to find the SPAM when they post a new topic. It would be harder to catch if they posted a reply in an existing thread.

true, but my guess is that 99% of the spam is all done by bots. And my guess again is that if the bot cant start a new post, it'll just move on to the next site in its list.

Ok, if everything worked correctly, new users will be unable to start a new topic until they've replied to an existing topic. The number of replies can be changed. For now I've set it to 1. I've created a sticky thread where users can reply to, or they can just reply to some other thread they are interested in.

The last part of the second post in this thread is a chain letter involving money, and seems problematic: http://www.barbarasher.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=18654

Since the user posting it isnt a new user, I'm going to assume their intent was good. So i left the post up, but i included a warning below it that in my opinion chain letters like that are a scam. I will leave K.Koje's post in place unless i get too many complaints about it.
