Hi all:
I'm working on a project and I need to come up with all of the sayings, phrases and such about luck and the four-leaf clover. Anything Irish, but particularly about luck and the clover.

Stuff like:
Luck of the Irish
Get lucky/Got lucky
Lucky duck
I'm looking over, a four-leaf clover...
Erin Go Bragh

Anything you can think of --please list it!!!

Thanks!

Not sure if these will help, but...

'Come for the ceilidh!' (ceilidh = party)
Shamrock
Frosted Lucky Charms cereal
'Top o' the mornin'
The four leaves = faith, hope, love, and luck
'Cead Mile Failte' (a hundred thousand welcomes)

A few Irish sayings:

There’s a dear little plant that grows in our Isle,
‘Twas St. Patrick himself, sure, that sets it;
And the sun of his labor with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the mire land,
And they call it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland.
________________________________

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!
________________________________

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

An Irish blessing:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
May the rains fall soft upon your fields, and, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

And two jokes:

What do you get if you cross poison ivy with a four-leaf clover? A rash of good luck!

Why should you never iron a 4-leaf clover? You don’t want to press your luck.

:D

Yes mango, those do help!

One question: Is that first word in 100,000 welcomes start with a C or an L--I always thought it was an L--but I've only ever seen it in Gaelic script.

Are you Irish????

Hi Moonracer,

No, I'm not Irish - I'm of Scottish/English descent... more recently half Newfoundlander and half Nova Scotian.
However... my first name is Irish, and the Gaelic heritage and culture are alive and well where I spent my first 30 years.

I've only ever seen it spelled Cead.

If you ever need the Irish word for a big club/walking stick (you never know!), it's 'shillelagh.' Just thought of that one. :D

You knew so much about it, I thought you might be Irish!

Thanks for the spelling. Guess I need to get my eyes checked

Thanks!
