Calorie Counting App for iPhone?

Postby mango » Sat Dec 22, 2012 11:46 am

Hi all,

Can anyone vouch for a good calorie counting application for the iPhone?

I know people have discussed various fitness and calorie counting applications (not that I can find them now that I want to), and I'd be very interested in hearing your recommendations.

Thanks in advance! :D

Oh, I should mention the features I'm looking for:

Lets you enter (or scan) any particular brand name of food, as well as generic foods (like bananas)
Calculates calories per serving
Lets you enter and tally daily totals

I prefer free, but I don't mind a paid app.

Thanks again.

Are you trying to adhere to a particular diet? I ask because the diet might have an app specifically for followers of that diet. For example, folks on the Blood Type Diet have their own app. Weight Watchers has another.

I can't resist mentioning that the idea that weight gain results only when you take in more calories than you expend is an old belief system.

Thanks, Squarepeg!

No, no particular diet. I'm just going to expand my food choices and would like to see what kind of calories I'm taking in on a daily basis.
I've never checked it out before.

Thanks for the other info, too.

Consumer Reports rated diets recently. In their article, they gave high marks to this free app: MyFitnessPal

I've been using the Fitbit app in conjunction with the Fitbit tracker for the last month and have found it very helpful and fun to use. (Plus I lost 20 lbs!)

That's wonderful, Katchal!!!

I ended up signing up with My Fitness Pal, and I think they are now integrated somehow with FitBit.

Now I'm on to something else. I watched 'Forks Over Knives' and 'Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead,' and I'm about to try a juicing 'reboot,' followed by a plant-based diet and an exercise routine. I'll check in sometime and let everyone know how it goes. Or I'll start a post...

:D
