Weight Loss Made Joyous

Postby mikeisjoyous » Tue Jul 09, 2019 7:10 pm

Hi friends:)
Well, at least we're all potentially friends:)
I'm interested in very slow weight loss. Think in terms of 1-2 pounds per month.
My idea is to go at it so slowly that biological resistance just does not develop.
That means extremely small changes, the kinds that other people will laugh at and tell you cannot achieve anything.
To which I respond, "We'll see!"
My first change is to lower my calories twice /week. I decided to have peanut butter or fruits when I feel like it throughout the day.
I chose peanut butter because I like it and it's pretty filling. Fruits are because sometimes I want sweets but not a lot of calories. I like to close my eyes and feel the peanut butter as it goes down to my stomach and eventually fills me up.
I like the idea of creating this list on Barbara's board. Barbara is about living life to the fullest. What's the point of starving yourself or exercising heroically unless you do it to enjoy life more than ever?
Best to all,
Mike

For those of you who want to talk about exercise, I will be happy to do that, once I feel the new habit get settled around the pit of my stomach, making me feel a little more used to these two days per week of eating less.
That could take as little as two days or 8 months. Again we'll see.

Another thought: some of you might be wondering what to do on the other 5 days. Or what if various problems pop up. We can explore that together.

I wish to stress that I AM NOT ASSOCIATED WITH BARBARA IN ANY WAY. I am merely taking advantage of Barbara's generosity in providing these boards for all!!

Danke schon, LalithaN:) I was actually thinking about not beginning my plan today. Then I thought if the announcement I made. I just didn't want to chicken out publicly!
I got an idea for what to do on the third diet day of the week. To be revealed (in serial fashion).

Hi Mike,
I don't think peanut butter is a good alternative for a meal. Pls consult a diet specialist.

Hi LalithaN, it doesn't matter which food I take. People have gone on nothing but water for 2 days per week and feeling healthier!
Peanut butter is an interesting food, LalithaN. More fat than protein (good for kidneys) and more protein than carbs (good for diabetes).
I realize your good intentions, but you are mistaken about this. I know both the advantages and disadvantages of the foods I take
Best always. Mike

Today thus far I have taken no peanut butter. Instead, 2 slices of American cheese. Cheese doesn't seem to hold in the stomach as well as peanut butter. Also the protein is about the same as fat--which means it's not as good for the kidneys. Still it is convenient and, as long as I don't have the stress today of working at the job I dislike does not lead to gorging on high carb foods.
Thinking a little further about this, I have compiled a list of foods that are compatible with low calorie days and that do not lead to gorging if there is no work that day:
Peanut butter
Cheese
Cottage cheese
Potatoes
Potatoes have resistant starch that does not raise blood sugar much. They also have anti-inflammatory properties which are unique. For the purpose of low calorie days, I allow salt, boullion, and diet sugar only with them
Very low fat hamburger
Must not take more than quarter pound twice per day because of kidney issues
Fruits
. Not more than 4 spread throughout the day because the carbs may affect blood sugar

I think peanut butter is most convenient and affects appetite the best. But thes

e all can be used. Just not at same time

Please be aware of foods you consume. For example, when I eat peanut butter, I tend to close my eyes to be more aware of the effect on my body. It is not just a lessening of hunger, but a sense of heaviness or lightness and emotional changes, which I will discuss later. A good book about food awareness is "One Bowl" by Gerard. I have not found his method of eating, by itself, useful to lose weight.

Certain foods seem to have anti-stress properties that do not lead to gorging even with considerable stress

Tomatoes (I use diet sugar with them)
Potatoes (with diet sugar, salt, pepper, or bouillon)
Peanut butter

On low calorie days, avoid combinations. For example, if I eat potatoes, I do not allow fruits or meat or any other foods for 2 hours

Creating a scenario of deprivation caused the child/teenager in you to rebel. That is why you did not do what you said you'd do. Set a more realistic goal. Perhaps investigate intermittent fasting. That does not mean going days without food. It means, going 12 hours without food. Peanut butter is fine, however, it does have saturated fat. Setting a scenario that won't awaken the resistance monster will get you from one step to another. Beating yourself up because you did not do what you said you'd do, is not a loving way to treat yourself. Change one meal. One.

Hi Tituba:) In fact, today I am trying out peanut butter only from 6pm to 6am.
Are you into losing weight yourself?
Oh yes, fat is better than protein for my kidneys.
Best always,
Mike

I feel stressed from work. I don't want to eat tomatoes, potatoes, or peanut butter. Problem is if I gorge, it's like telling myself I will never be slim and I will die fairly young.
