Anyone else trying Harry Potter in a different language? My local Borders' (boo hiss work of the devil etc) stocks the old ones in French, and I'm trying to get through one of them. Getting the gist is fine, I find, for someone who has adequate basic French for the 'bear necessities' of life - i.e. if you were plonked down in a French village, you could get fed, find a roof over your head and work out how to get to Paris or an airport. But I'm missing a lot of fine detail. I'm planning a second read-through with the aid of a dictionary, but it would spoil the tale too much first time. Progress is slow, not helped by the fact that I'm simultaneously reading the new one in English! But it's fun. And I think it's helping my French.
