BARBARA'S WRITESPEAK TELEWORKSHOP

Postby BarbaraSher » Wed Feb 07, 2007 8:42 pm

This was Part I of the 3-part program. There's a link for more information at http://www.geniuspress.com/write-speak-program.htm Here's a letter from one participant: dcopelan Posted: Wed Jan 31, 2007 Barbara, My immediate reaction was that I was trying to drink from a fire hose! There was so much good information and it was coming at me so fast I didn't have time to think or digest it all. I have been thinking of almost nothing else since. I am realizing that this workshop is changing the way I talk to myself and to others - everything is lining up behind the desire to finally identify my message and do the work to get it out there. My second reaction was - I have found my group of swans! After feeling for a long time like I was the ugly duckling everywhere, I found a group of people who have similar life questions they are trying to explore. We have so much in common regarding this quest. It was good to know I am not alone. I know these people will provide some valuable feedback and insights to help the process. Your insights and approach are invaluable! I keep re-reading my notes and continue to learn even after the session is over. When I heard you start the workshop off with the comment - \"This workshop is designed to connect your message with your heart\" - I felt chills - and still do. I know it's working and I can't wait to continue my work. Feel free to use my comments. Thanks, Dee

I'm really glad I attended the teleclass and got a lot out of it. Here's what I most enjoyed, and why: Your Message: I'd never thought about one's drive coming from an emotional deficit before. I'd heard many times about \"teaching what you need to learn the most,\" but hadn't really thought about the emotional part of it. Writing a Book Without Writing a Book: A woman who runs a \"Designing Teleclasses\" class I attend introduced me to the concept of taping your teleclasses and live presentations to transcribe into the draft of a book, but you expanded upon that with blogs and bulletin boards. Here again, I'd heard part of this information before, but when you talked about how when you look into people's eyes and connect with them the words will come; it's that language that's most authentic and real. That was a big lightbulb moment for me, because people have often said to me \"wait, can you say that again because that was very insightful and helpful to me\" and of course, I can't remember half of what I said. Talk about a Topic You Don't Know About: What a scary concept for me, someone who fears looking like she doesn't know everything! Your comment \"people are asking things you didn't know they'd ask, which'll get you going off on things you DO know and the stuff you MEAN and that's the stuff of your book because it's alive\" really resonated with me. Your direction to talk to groups before we research seemed counterintuitive, but yet made sense the more I thought about it. Another puzzle piece fell into place. Of everything I got out of this workshop, this was the biggie for me. Pragmatic, \"Nuts and Bolts\" stuff: Hearing about your experiences with speakers bureaus, groups to whom we should consider speaking, editors, transcribers, and lecture bureaus was helpful. Writing Exercises: I really enjoyed these, and wished there'd been more. I wanted to expand upon what I'd written and take that \"aha\" moment I mentioned earlier and start expanding on it during the class. The Key Question: What is it in you that makes you step forward and shine a light on something and fix it - what can you see that others don't see, so you must step in? were quite thought-provoking questions. I wrote a long list of responses to those questions while you were talking, and that was when I had my \"aha\" moment that I mentioned in my earlier email (about the \"wow, I had it in me all along and here's how I figure that out\" story). I felt such joy and a sense of \"rightness\" when I started answering those questions and the \"aha\" came, that I know I'm onto something. So, for that, and all the other items listed above I am truly grateful! Christina

Write/Speak Teleclass Comments The biggest benefit to me was a serious confirmation that the themes I had in mind for my book/media (nature, travel, spirit) really did resonate with the old, deep longings. And that there are other criteria for choosing themes besides what will sell and make me a living. There are a lot of things any of us might know about and could research further to produce a marketable book or speech, but that is not the idea in this operation. Here we are to develop something soulful, that only a small, special subset of the grand American audience might relate to, but would do so enthusiastically and loyally - the Sher Model. The lowest common denominator, the great unwashed masses, are usually too distracted by sitcoms and other pornography to relate to easily, much less effectively. And besides, it seems that most of us here are formulating messages that in one way or another call to those few ready to listen, \"Abandon ye the great plodding mass!\" We are the few, the proud, the whatever-the-hell we are - but we are, or at least are trying to become, only our original, true selves. Cheers, Mike

Barbara Sher - My Yoda

Postby jwwillis100 » Sat Mar 31, 2007 5:28 am

As I sat there in the New Jersey retreat in March, 2007 watching and listening to Barbara Sher tell us how she would explain and guide and assist us to write our books and become effective public speakers I fell under her spell. She is my Yoda, the revered Jedi Master who is very powerful in The Force. But I sensed that there would be more Jedi Masters from among us. Because she is not just teaching in the normal sense, she is perceiving our needs and capabilities and almost magically imparting a new Understanding of The Force within each of us!! You must experience our 'Yoda' to understand The Force and it is powerful! I love you Barbara! Jerry

WriteSpeak Part I - The 6-hour telephone workshop

Postby BarbaraSher » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:50 am

The class was simply fabulous. You kept it fun and lighthearted, yet deep, rich and unbelievably informative. It was a profound experience for me and I am most deeply grateful to you! I will send a more specific list of golden moments once my brain is up and running again (temporary shut down for information processing is in place right now), but just had to shout out a heartfelt thank you today. Simone D. [Re: scheduling time to take this course]: NONE of my plans before the teleworkshop and NONE of my plans immediately after the retreat has turned out to be of any use at all. I find I get much more done in what Barbara calls 'taking notes on the fenders of Buicks' than I ever imagined -- yielding around ten pages of living language per week -- and much less done \"working on my book\" than I ever expected. I also thought I'd put off any form of speaking until after the book was done, because it's so \"not me,\" but I've been doing two marriage teleclasses per month, and I have a backlog of perhaps 100 pages of untranscribed content. And then I go and offer my very limited spare time to the next WriteSpeak group, because working with the first group has been so stimulating, so motivating, and so likely to mean I'll never be an outsider in the community of advice book authors, because a bunch of my new friends are going to hit the scene at the same time I do. Once Barbara shows you how to become a writer and speaker without making a big production out of the work of getting there, you'll probably be wondering where to find time for the other things in your life, not this. Patty Newbold http://www.enjoyingmarriage.com The thing that I enjoyed the most about the teleconference was the way the exercises dug deep in to our subconsciousnesses and provided invaluable information for our present day usage.  I learned a lot about what matters most to me and more importantly what I have to share with others. Yvonne With compassionate wisdom, Barbara's mentoring and the group's support I was able to finally focus and get clarity around what's been eluding me for the last five years regarding my book and speaking career. The excercises and dialogs helped moved me from dreaming me into Being me. As Yoda says, no try, just do. Michele I want to really say how much I have already benefitted from the  last few hours of this workshop.  I truly was believing that it was going to be very hard to write... only to find that all I thought that was writing was isnt and there is so much freedom inside of that. The opportunity to share and explore my message and to discover I do have a unique message... and I can do this.. which is so exciting and more importantly I am really inspired to share and help others. Thank you so much and I am so looking forward to the [retreat and the] rest of the journey. With gratitude, Karen, London You always seem to come up with some totally original content and you've done it again on this workshop! The way you've told us to write and to come up with original content is great. And the process for coming up with a really compelling core message has been moving and revealing. Thanks for telling us we don't need to have all the answers before we starttoo! I feel like I've now got a good idea of how to come up great content for books and talks. John W., London Barbara's depth of knowledge is incredible. She has so much to offer and she does it with warmth, humour and kindness. The Write Speak Teleworkshop is excellent. Barbara really helps you to get at the message you most need to share with the world. I loved the way she had us do exercises that had a deeper meaning than we initially realized. She truly is a master at what she does and I feel privileged to have been able to experience this session with her. In one day, she has helped me to clarify and define my message - wow! Thank you, Barbara. Brenda What an amazing day! While it will take me weeks to fully digest everything that I've learned, I already feel that have found a place that feels like home. Surprisingly - to me at least - is that I learned more about myself than specific tools for writing. That was a lovely gift. As an aside, while I very much look forward to meeting Barbara at the retreat in January, I am also very excited about meeting in person the folks with whom I spoke today. What a great group with amazing energy! Colleen So far, this tele-workshop has gotten me immersed in participating with others in real time using these technologies. This is a stretch, even though I’m techno-active. The combination of thinking, feeling, communicating, and also managing the technical specifics has been unpleasant at times, but I feel like I’ve grown from it. David
