Travel companion and helper

Postby lovingmyself » Sat May 30, 2015 11:52 am

I love to travel and am looking for ways to make money while travelling. An idea I came up with was to be a travel companion and helper. I was thinking that there may be people looking to travel but either they do not want to travel alone or they need some aide while on vacation and are willing to pay the trip costs for someone to be there with them. I realize for that to happen I would have to target people who are wealthy or well off. I was thinking of elderly widows who do not want to be alone or whose son or daughter would feel comfortable that their parent would have someone there for support. Also someone who has difficulty doing things for themselves like planning trips, packing or carrying their belongings, or getting organized for the day ahead.

I am not interested in a being a travel escort as that may imply certain things to certain people. That is why I would target women rather than men. I don't know if there are any other types of clientele who might be interested in this sort of thing. Perhaps families who want someone to help with their children or take them for a day to give the parents a rest. The benefit to me is that I would get a free trip somewhere and be able to enjoy the sites while helping my client.

Have any of you done this or do any of you know someone who does this.

I know that other people have done what you are asking about. I'm not very knowledgeable about travel, but here are a few thoughts.

People who might want your service are older people, or people with children or really busy people.

Start accumulating recommendations about yourself - that you are honest, reliable, capable.

Talk to travel agents, or other people in the business of travel. Elderhostel might have some ideas.

Cruise ships have day care facilities. Does this idea appeal to you? It's not exactly what you're asking about, but it's still a way to travel.

I hope you get your wish. It sounds like fun, and a useful service for someone.

Elaine, thank you for your response on my posts in both forums. I will make use of these suggestions and see where it takes me.
