The first alternative to working for a large corporation is somewhat naive:

1). Go to work for yourself. As long as you work for someone, they control your destiny. If you want to control your own destiny, and have the guts and brains to do so, work for yourself. Then no one can lay you off again, you make a very clear individual difference, and you are beholden to no one.

Beholden to no one? Sure I guess, especially if "no one" doesn't include creditors and clients.

I think this is yet another one of those info-tainment articles designed to sell copy / attract hits without offering much useful advice.

Yeah, otherwise, I love these articles that say get out of cubicle land like that's going to solve all your problems. Just become a blogger.
