Hang in there, Inspire. It's a lot to learn, but you don't have to learn it all right away. And you have a cheering section here.

I haven't read enough details to know whether my comment will fit at all.
I want to mention the cochlear implantat. Do you know about it?
I know three persons very well with one and two implantats. You could ask me anything about it, it is a miracle thing and the OP is a routine thing, and fully paid in Germany by the insurance.

Hi Sonja H,

Thanks for replying to my thread. I'm glad you brought up the subject of choclear implants. At the HLAA meeting I just went to the lecture topic was chochlear implants. I didn't know anything about them. Yes, they are covered by health insurance in the US. But in order to get one you have to qualify. In order to qualify you have to be very close to deafness, which at this point I'm not. There were people in the meeting who had them and they talked about the pros and cons.

At this point, my hearing loss is not close to qualifying, which I'm glad of. It means that my hearing loss is not as severe as I thought. However, it's nice to know if my hearing gets that bad, there is something that can be done.

I've stopped posting here for awhile and I'm glad you brought this thread up again. I'm going to come back later and share the progress I've been making with this situation.

Hi Sonja H,

I just reread your post. One of the things I learned was that some people have an implant in just one ear and some have them in both ears.

I'm going to come back later and ask you some questions about your friends. Thanks for offering to chat about it.

So, how's it going, Inspire? (if you want to share, of course.)
