want to work from home as a travel agent if they still exist

Post by rebelpirate »

Hello...

I am exploring several career ideas...

my wife is an executive assistant with a major airline and is in a pretty stable position with benefits.
we have 2 children (11 & 2) and I am exploring work from home options at this time. I came across a website
devoted to travel agents as a work from home idea.

I need to find a career that will allow me to work around my childrens school and activities schedule. Working from home
as a travel agent sounds interesting but I am wondering if travel agents still exist in todays internet world.

I have just started to research this idea and I am trying to work through the preliminary info.

your input would be appreciated.

thank you.

Travel agents still exist. I found four on the net under "travel agents near your home." (do you realize how weird that would have sounded thirty years ago?)

Be careful about security if you have clients come to your house. Not an impossible problem, but something to address.

Good wishes.

I have a friend who makes quite a nice living as a home based travel agent. She is always going on "fact finding" trips to check out hotels for her clients. Right now, she is in Aruba (and gets to write it off). She specializes in honeymooners, so she networks at bridal shows.

It is very possible. I have some folks close to me who book strictly by word of mouth. They don't really try that hard at making money since they are retired and travel much themselves. Last night they told me that they made 10,000 last year. 3000 went to taxes however. But still... they are not really working hard at it since they are retired and do only what they want to do. They book international travels only. They do have luck of having many friends who love to travel but I think you can do it and much better than they do since you want to do it as a career.

Rebelpirate, could you give me the website. This is something that could interest me too. Did you ever pursue it? If so, did it work out for you?

Thanks.

Hi, Lovingmyself,

Rebelpirate probably isn't reading the posts here anymore.

Which website are you referring to? The only one I saw was the one Tituba posted.

Becoming a travel agent from home doesn't sound like an impossible wish.

Elaine, I opened up the link from Tituba and it is an article about a Travel agency not a link about working as a travel agent from home. The piraterebel was referring to a link that would enable him to work from home so that is what I was asking about. Thanks for pointing it out.

Ok, go the American Express website careers page and type in travel and whatever area you live in. They have remote travel agent jobs. I don't know if you have experience as a travel agent already. If you don't they also have a 11 week paid training in Phoenix. Here is a link to this https://jobs.americanexpress.com/virtua ... cale=en-US
