I just registered, crafted my first post (about astrological influences of scanners) and then discovered there's two message boards. Why am I not surprised?

Hello, I just registered for the Scanner Refuse to Choose board, and all that's in there is porn spam!?!?! Anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks!

I deleted the latest batch of porn spam and sent a msg to merk. If he's confused because he doesn't see anything there, tell him I just went in and did it. To all: we're very lucky to have Tituba watching over this forum -- as a favor to us all. This might be a good time to thank her. She does a magnificent job. I didn't even know people spammed bulletin boards until now! Show's you how good she is. Thank you, K. If the Scanners over at scannersrefusetochoose will keep an eye on that bbs that would be great. As it is, the spam was only up for one day each time, so some of you have been notifying us really fast and we all appreciate it. I'm running for a plane or I'd put this msg up over there right now, so I'll ask Tituba or Scenario to do this if that's okay. Got a lot on my mind. I'm out here bcz my mom wasn't doing well, and we lost her. When I get my wits about me, I'm going to start putting up all the photos and stories about her that I gathered on this trip on the website I gave her for her 87th birthday, 9 years ago. Tituba, What Barbara said. We are lucky. I guess it would be dumb for eight billion people to e-mail Barbara our condolences, but I guess your e-mail said it. We certainly ARE thinking of her loss. And thinking that you and Merk do an awful lot of work to keep this forum on track. So, I guess the best way to let Barbara know we pay attention is to THANK YOU, Tituba. So there.

So sorry to hear about your mother Barbara... Glad to know it's just a temporary thing with the spam...I had a bit of a "twilight zone" moment after I'd registered and saw all that stuff in there...

That's a really sweet and unusual site Barbara made for her mother Nettie. I was looking at it just a few days ago. It's a lovely tribute to a fine person. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures and stories when they are posted. I don't suppose many people realise what an excellent job merk and Tituba do in looking after these boards. Anyone who owns a BB has to wage a constant war against spammers. That wasn't the first time the scannersrefusetochoose.com board was attacked. I've reported several previous instances to Merk, and he usually deals with it so quickly, I doubt if many people notice. When I first signed up here I was so pleased with these boards that I wanted to find more the same. I searched for another author who has written about scanners, to see if she had a forum. She had but I was disappointed to find it was totally overrun with spam, and she abandoned it soon afterwards. So I want to add my thanks to merk and Tituba for putting in the hard work that makes this wonderful place possible.

I just visited Barbara's site too, it is really sweet; I love how she uses the drawings of her mother's dresses as a sort of timeline of her mother's life. The drawings themselves are lovely too. I don't really belong to any other boards, and I had no idea that spammers would put their garbage on someone's board...how annoying and frustrating for the owner of the board!! It seems like merk and Tituba have a lot to keep track of on these boards; that must be a job in itself.

Seems like it's back already, because I got notified of the latest post.

Moving the bulletin boards to a new server was a massive job and our new techie, Alex, won't even tell me how many hours he worked on it. But I think it's okay now.

EDIT: I still can't access it. Maybe it comes from the address? I don't know.
It's always a lot of work to move a board. It seems virtual, but it requires as much as if it was moving a house!
