Delta First Success Team completes 8 weeks!!!

Postby educguess » Wed Sep 30, 2009 7:16 pm

Hello all; Congratulations to the Delta, CO First Team: Over the course of the team there were seven members. Four consistent with successes and planning to continue on. Their format choice is regular phone calls and a monthly meeting - with the potential of the monthly meetings being IDEA parties. Their first Idea Party was considered by each of them a very exciting experience and thoroughly enjoyed the input from a variety of new people. DP - succeeded in getting over her inner voice she was not capable of pursuing further education - entered a Master's program - on line and got As in both of the her first two classes. Her masters is to provide her with further credentials for her business idea of providing services for Brain Injury recovery. Currently she will attend school. Have the good enough job as a PTA and begin her business only in a training/consultant role - not case services/management to keep balance and focus on school this next year. DB - identified dreams that had been gathering dust. Wants a camera to take photos from her home on Grand Mesa - specifically night time photos. She has a plan together to supplement income that is the photo fund - one was a yard sale and it has happened and was a success. She also pulled out the writing box and is writing again and beginning to formulate several children's books, beginning to get ideas to transition from cleaning houses to other jobs not as strenous. Excited and more confident. SW - started with trying to make a career decision and identified her current need - desire was to reclaim her creativity in the arts. She wants a camera also - started her fund and integrated the funding of the camera with quitting smoking - stumbled with her attempt at cold turkey, however, knows she was successful with pill/patch support previously and has the appointment with the doctor to proceed. All money saved goes to the camera. She also was struggling with wanting to increase her health status and her husband in chronic pain and not being active in his own health care. She decided to help him by not "taking care" of him so he will care for himself. Result a change. And she is feeling good about the positive changes with both them. SH- Lots of loss - caregiver - now on her own and not responsible for anyone now. Lacked confidence, very scared with what she should do. Started identifying dreams. Lined up a series of steps to gain skills to re-enter job market. Has completed 5 basic computer skills classes through work force center. Has registered for Master Gardener's Class in January. Has been going with a friend to major craft shows - out of state - relearning how to interact with people - customers (had withdrawn with the care giving of her son). Wants to own a B&B or run one - maybe even in Italy. Will contact the local B&B organization and make connections. Lots of excitement, oh sure and resistance, support of the team and movement!!! Congratulations to the team. And all the dreams that are coming true.

Monthly Idea - Progress Report Night! Everyone is continues to progress - oh yes there were reports of obstacles and resistance - and stories of how they or others they are sharing with are stubbling or struting right along. Oh so proud of them. DP continues with her Master's program, setting regular stepping stones to diminish last minute crisis time!! DB - Flu bug - helping plan a wedding - using her creativity. SW - remaining on the patch for smoking - almost d/c - even with major life stresses!!!! Has started quilting and having a great time. Goal was to use more creativity and she is doing just that. Being responsible for herself and letting hubby be responsible for his own health. SH - being consistent and doing well with the food - craft fairs with friend; continuing with computer classes and medical terminology in Oct/Nov (registered); developing contact list for B&B contacts!!!! Marvelous - what a difference a success team can make!!

Nov Progress Report gathering - DP made it through some resistance this month - almost another quarter completed - loves neuropsychology and forget clinical psychology!!!! Totally supporting significant other - marvelous. DB - soaks up everyone's progress and putzes along with playing with all her creative ventures. SW - off and on the patch, continues to be committed to quitting smoking; has all of her quilt pieces sewed in strips!!!!Also making kitty catnip toys. Sparkles when she shows and tells!!!! SH - trucking right along with her computer classes; has her Master Gardner application (with success team as references) to submit to start class in January; continuing her grief process with great support and movement. Each one taking steps along their backwards flowchart with updates and adjustments. The magic of a Success Team at work!!

Great report! And thank you. I love reading about everything that happened with your people. I'm sitting in a nice little apartment in Toulouse, working on something and will peek in each time I take a break to see what's been going on. Thinking about it, I realize I may need tips from all you stellar Success Team leaders because the new program I'm beginning the second half of January for coaches will have telephone Success Teams for the first 8 weeks (and I haven't run a team in a very long time). As a matter of fact, I might report in here, week by week, just as you have done. That's a jolly new thought. Looking forward, Barbara

Thanks Barbara!!! Dec update - we meet monthly for check on our progress and set the next months goals. And yes for food and fellowship (support!!!), and Hard Times sessions. We touch base during the month by phone - has to do with geographic area we cover. DB has a little resistance and life happenings and did not make it to the Dec gathering SW - putting the finishing touches on her quilt; making quilted pot holders for friends; made lots of toys for the cats at CAWS; All of this with the sewing machine breaking and finishing the work by hand!!!Continues to make progress on other life goals - finances and careers even as obstacles appear - yeah SW. SH - going for the gold - completed medical terminology course, signed up for other computer classes, opportunity knocked for her to pursue being a PAID advocate/case manager for those with disabilities (a case by case basis and thus supports her and lets her continue the big plan). [Has to take a class/test to proceed - on target for that] Hesitation (another word for resistance arising) with the Master Gardener class - however the team asked questions provide some additional thoughts and she was moving forward with the goal again. DP - Did very well with another quarter of classes - then an oops - melt down- did not think the 50 page paper was done well/following the instructions - pushed the delete button. Did arrange for Incomplete and has 4 weeks to get it done. Ok she called one of the team members afterwards - and to help prevent this obstacle will read and explain assignments to a team member at the start - this way she will have clarified for herself the assignment. What a team!!! Hubbie helping with search for scholarships - wants to get this masters and then a PhD in neuropsychology - to further her skills with the brain injured. Teams at work!!!

January!!! DB - great strides - all closets, drawers, corners, cleaned out and "stuff" gone! Found more of her writings from past - plan is to organize the stories for the next month. Has a plan for getting her camera for her Night Sky Pictures business - she is selling some signed art work that she is comfortable in letting go. Marvelous. SW - completed a gorgeous quilt for her hubby; the next one is almost complete, and plans for some additional ones. Completed and presented quilted hot pot holders to the group. Got a new sewing machine for Christmas - in heaven. Hubby got a job, she has a second spot job - goal next month - re-establish budget and complete quilt. SH - completed two more computer classes, started Master Gardener's Course and is in heaven. Completed transition of room at home to her craft room - caused excitement- beginning to plan her craft projects again and sees not a business but periodic booth at fairs for fun money. Now knows she will be returning to the human service field as she returns to working. DP - back in school after getting house back in order during the 4 wks off. Realized with increasing work hours - 2 classes was overwhelming, but also realized need to stay on track and finish one. Dropped one class and moving forward with her statistics class. Being consistent in saying no, setting boundaries and preventing overwhelm (too much to do)ahead of time with conscious decisions!! Great Work! As the Team marches on!!

Team considered dwindling last month. Said no - we need to meet! This month - great strides toward goals. DB got all her collection on notes and pieces of writing organized so that she can look at a book (s). Plans to organize and outline material for the childrens' books this next month. SH - completed all her computer classes, finalizing her resume, and is eligible for an internship with an employer of her choice - plus she started some sewing projects just for her. DP - continuing to maintain straight As in her Master's program - two 1/3 quarters to go an then her internship!! SW quilting away - found out her level of craftsmanship is high enough to get a premium price for a quilt which will help her get her camera!. Ahhhhhh the benefits of a success team!
