Sales Targets

Postby pattyn » Sat Feb 10, 2007 7:51 pm

For self-published, POD, and mainstream publisher self-help books, how many books would one need to sell to be noteworthy -- able to land a second publishing contract, of interest to groups looking for speakers, of interest to journalists writing about the topic -- and how would that sales volume convert to Amazon rank numbers?

I have no background in e-publishing or any publishing for that matter. But did a quick search and found what SEEMED to be two examples. http://www.pkblogs.com/politicalcalcula ... sales.html http://www.gropenassoc.com/downloads/ha ... script.doc With this blurb: \" Look up the data on iPage at Ingram. This is prey to the same flaws as Bookscan, and is often a little less complete, but is still a good base from which to guesstimate total sales life of title. Look up sales ranks for comparable titles on Amazon. Divide one by the rank, and you get something that is directly related to the number of total sales for each book. This works equally well for niche books, as for mainstream books. \"

Hi Patty, I have been through all the stages of the making of a self-published book, The Kindness of God. The book is not mine, I was hired as a consultant from its start to its being released for sale (Nov. 2006), and now its marketing. It is being sold online through Amazon and is being represented by Ingram to bookstores. There is an e-newsletter that is put out every two weeks or so, SpeakerNetNews, that I highly recommend. I always look forward to it. At least once a month, the publishers of the newsletter advertise upcoming interviews they do as teleseminars. To learn more about the speaking, writing and publishing world, I also highly recommend listening to taped interviews with experts. SpeakerNetNews does interviews that are taped and sold as CDs and downloadable MP3s. Their prices are very reasonable ($15 for the recordings in MP3 format). I have purchased several of them, and find them invaluable resources. The guests in those interviews are professionals and experts in certain areas of the speaking world. It is aimed at speaking professionals, and upcoming speaking professionals (like you). The majority of professional speakers have books, and many of their books are self-published, so there are recordings available of interviews concerning writing and publishing books. Again, I highly recommend checking them out. Click here to go to the SpeakerNetNews website At their website click on “Teleseminars” in the left hand navigation pane. That will take you to the page that has the upcoming teleseminar, and below that the list of the previously recorded sessions for sale. I hope you and others find this information helpful, Image Dr. Irene Blinston, Ph.D. http://www.blinston.com http://www.blinston.com/APA http://www.blinston.com/Astrology http://www.blinston.com/DrBlinston http://www.blinston.com/Psychomanteum Yes, I am a Scanner, and I love it!
