Who are the writers here?

Post by kashtanka »

I just wanted to get a general idea of the number of people who are writers here. It doesn't matter if you're published, and what you write. It could be a blog, journals, etc. Who are the people who love writing, whether it be for money or personal pleasure? Tell a little about your writing journey if you wish.

Hi Kathy

I am currently writing for a series of books that will be sold from a joint website.

The site is being set up now.

Writing journey - published in print long time ago - variety of subjects

Re-started after meeting writing partner in 2010 made a decision to write joint books.

This has now been changed, we will each write our own but sell them from the same site.

He has another site with just his own work.

I have two blogs; one is a gratitude journal I write every day; the other is one I write in now and again. This past November, I participated in NaNoWriMo for the first time and met the goal of 50,000 words, which really encouraged me. So I'm doing research and editing what I wrote as well as writing a couple of other things. I don't care if they ever get published, although that would be nice, I write because I have to. :D

Unity, thanks for sharing. Writing is definitely a calling for you. From other threads that you've commented in, I know that you're a prolific writer and that you'll be published many times over. Make sure to announce when your site is set up. I'll be your first visitor!

Yonuh, wow, you're very dedicated to your gratitude blog by writing in it everyday. Can you give a link to your blog or is it private? The one I started years ago was for my family members because it was all about us and no one else would be interested. Good luck on editing the NaNoWriMo novel. I love what you wrote about having to write.

Any other writers out there?

Kathy, I've never thought of writing as a calling it's just something I felt interested in at various times in my life. At the moment, I'm not that enthusiastic about the website or books at all

Might be because I have just come to a cross roads in my life and realise that changes have to be made.

Unity, I'm surprised that you don't think writing is a calling because you're so good at it! Maybe you would like it better if you weren't working as a team with another writer.

Do you have any idea what the changes wil be? Do you think you'll give up writing entirely?

Kashtanka, I have found that keeping a public Gratitude Journal makes me realize how fortunate I am; and it helps me to keep a positive attitude. Here's the link: http://newbeginninggratitudejournal.blogspot.com/

My other blog doesn't have a theme, just whatever I feel compelled to write about: http://ruth-rainbearsolutions.blogspot.com/

Neither blog is private.

Yonuh, I was very inspired by your gratitude journal. I loved it. You listed simple things you are grateful for, but they mean so much to a healthy and happy life. It hit me that many people, including myself, have a lot more to be grateful for than to be negative about. Putting an emphasis on the positive puts a new spin on life. This morning, I found myself inwardly grumbling about missing sleep on account of my husband's work schedule - but I just thought of how I have the luxury to take a nap this afternoon. It's all good. Thanks for the inspiration!

Kathy I did think the change might include cutting down on socialising but as you know that didn't quite work out the other night :D although today I only went out for a short while. However I still did the minimum of everything else at home.

Either it was through tiredness or just that I am stuck with the writing at the moment. I have two stories that need re-writing and they are turning out to be very hard to do.

10.45 pm I started on a new story, although I'm getting a panic if I will be able to find a twist for it. I normally manage so shouldn't feel anxious. I'm leaving it now until another day. I'm wondering whether a new story will be more useful than struggling with the ones to re-work.

I don't have that inner drive like MM with writing even though I could possibly get a lot of financial gain from doing it which might be very useful in the near future because of the D.

Kathy I need to pm you about the sites as there is something I want to ask your advice about, I'm not sure when I'll contact you as DS is coming home tomorrow. It's the kind of situation where I need help from someone that knows me well but is also a writer.

Hi everyone!
I don’t write as much as I’d like to. I’ve recently asked to be given writing assignments at work and was accepted. I’m also signed up for a course on feature writing, so I’m kicking it up, hoping that I can maintain some momentum with it. Like most people, I hope to get a book out of me one day, but I'm not there yet. I need to get into the habit of writing more first. I’m going to (re)start with blogging. The thing I’m most qualified to blog about is taking workshops! I take so many courses and classes, I have months worth of blog material! Probably not interesting to other people, but it’s a place to start.

Unity, I think you would be able to make good money with writing because you're able to write so quickly.

I was looking for a PM for you but you must've got tied up. I need to PM you about something too.

Emspace, I think writing a blog about all your workshop experieces would be terrific! Go for it! I'm a workshop "junkie" myself. Good luck with the one on feature writing.

I am busy with Ds, Kathy so it might be a few days until the PM. I'm not feeling very positive with the writing at present. MM is saying we need mini deadlines.

I'm not really a "writer," but I do a lot of copywriting as part of my marketing consulting. Mostly I write brochures, web pages, press releases, emails, white papers, etc. Commercial writing doesn't pay as much these days though - only about $50-75/hr.

Katchal, I consider you a writer with the list of things that you write, and I think that being paid $50-$75 hour for it is great pay. I once took a coywriting course and found that it takes a special kind of talent to write copy. I just couldn't get the hang of it.
