Good morning from Nairobi.

I am checking to see if anyone has used the website whose link is provided in this discussion? Kindly share your experience, in terms of kind of writing work they send and their level of professionalism?

Many thanks.

Hi, Colleta,

Welcome to the Boards. It's good to have another writer here.

I hope you try writing for one of the websites. I think that the pay scale might seem low in the U.S. but would be higher in Nairobi because of the rate of exchange on money.

Your English seems very good. I assume they want the work in English. I As for the degree of professionalism, let a friend edit your work. This is hard. No one likes to find out that they've made a mistake. I usually tell my friends how much editing I want them to do. At the beginning, I don't want to hear about what's wrong with what I've written, I just want someone to hear me read it, and tell me what they liked about it. Later, when I want to send it to a publisher or an agent or publish it myself, I want to correct every little thing, and I want them to tell me everything. It's a lot easier to find out that I've made a mistake (or a whole lot of mistakes) before something goes into print than to find it after it's been printed.

I have a group of friends look at the work that I do. They catch the little errors - grammar, spelling, so on. Also, my friends help with the harder aspects of writing - making the words flow, making sure that my meaning is clear. Finding ways to make boring parts interesting, and so on. I love knowing that the work was good before, but after the editing it's even better.

I don't know if you're just beginning as a writer of if you've worked with your writing for a long time. Just know that the very best writers use editors.

Also, living in Nairobi might be a great thing to write about. I would be interested.

I hope you keep posting here and tell us how it worked out.

The original post with the link appeared in 2015. You should be aware that some of the websites might not be accepting work anymore.

And if you have a question or something short to read, I'm willing to help you if I can.

I just looked at the article. No I've never submitted anything to any of the websites because it's not the kind of writing that I do.

p.s. Don't post an entire work here. Anyone can read our posts, and while most people are friendly and honest, you could have your work stolen. :(
