Snack: chicken ramen noodle soup, water I'm experimenting. I really want to eat Doritos because I'm anxious and cranky. And I have some in the house. But since what I really want from eating the Doritos is to relax, I'm going to listen to a relaxation CD that I bought last night for just this purpose. I'll let you know how it goes. Oh, and I had a healthy snack and a drink of water.

Geneen Roth had an interesting exercise. When you are feeling anxious and reaching for your comfort food, you visualize the words "it's not here" on the item. What that means is - whatever you really need (comfort, acknowledgement, gratitude, love) - it isn't in the item you are about to eat. Sometimes it is enough to say this to yourself to stop the pattern.

Thanks, Tituba! I will try that too. Results of my experiment: it worked! I relaxed for about 20 minutes, then took the dog for a walk. Then I went out to dinner with my husband and nephew to celebrate a financial success, and I picked a decent restaurant and ate sensibly! Before I left for dinner, I threw the Doritos in the trash. The best part of the whole thing is that I'm not going to be spending the evening beating myself up for giving in to Doritos. :D :D :D Dinner: two pieces of bruschetta, sm caesar salad with lowfat dressing on the side, Diet Coke Exercise: 30 minute walk with the dog

I think I might be lactose intolerant. :( I don't know what I would eat in the morning if I didn't have cereal!

Urs, according to Wikipedia, we have English muffins (which are supposed to be similar) but not crumpets. What do you put on your crumpets? Last night, my husband brought home a huge amount of chocolate to help me deal with PMS. Hmmm. I don't like or eat chocolate at any other time. Ate half of a large caramel-filled chocolate bar and some chocolate-covered raisins and feel like a big loser today. :( I don't know why he did that. Breakfast: multi-grain toast w/ cheddar cheese, coffee, water, meds, vitamins
