I'm close to finally jumping into a modified GAPS diet protocol. Close. Not quite there yet, but close. I probably wouldn't be able to really do it right until we move out into a place of our own again, just because it's too complicated to have a very restrictive diet when you live with 5 other people. After reading A LOT of different sources of information (some reliable, some not :roll: ), I've come to the conclusion that my system needs a breather from the usual garbage I've fed it over the years. Not sure how I'm going to accomplish it, but I'm gearing up for it. I wish my mother would try leaving out some of the things she eats daily as I really think she would feel SO much better.

The new book I'm starting to read today is Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall (sp?). It looks interesting, and apparently it's all about getting the digestive system sorted out. We'll see.

Tried Kefir today, and it was good! It was pretty much like yogurt, but a bit "zingier" I guess. Not sure if I'll make my own, but I am going to make some yogurt. The stuff at the store just has so much sugar, and I never like the plain. I can make my own with whole milk, and let it "cook" a lot longer than the store kind is (to make sure the milk sugars are used up by the live cultures), and then add some of my own fruit. I could even strain it to make it thicker. Mmmmm, sounds yummy already!

I had successfully gone without sugar today UNTIL I was at work cutting up Reese's cups for frozen yogurt toppings. Next thing I know, I'm scarfing down a big handfull of the mushed parts that didn't get put into the container! :roll: Arrgghh. Oh well. I managed to keep it to just that one transgression, so back on track now.

Have I mentioned sugar makes my joints hurt more? Probably, but bears repeating. My grandmother told me that years ago, and I thought she was crazy. :lol:
