Unity, I can tell because it happens like clockwork. Some days, I eat absolutely nothing that is sweetened at all, not even ketchup or salad dressings, nothing with sugar or sweeteners. On those days I do not have joint pain. Some days I cave in and eat candy, put sugar in my coffee, or eat the frozen yogurt at work. These are the days when I have joint pain. It doesn't matter if it's a day that I work or don't work, sit at home, drive long hours, etc..., the only consistent variable is the sugar. Rainy days and sugar together are awful, but rainy days without sugar sometimes give my very minor pain, so I guess the weather does matter some, but the biggest difference is always related to sugar and sweeteners. (not artificial sweeteners like aspartame though)

I have to say that it was very gratifying to go for a visit to the school where I used to teach and have lots of people say "You look amazing! What have you been doing??" and "I barely recognized you! Look how good you look!". On the other hand, I have to wonder how bad I really looked before. Must have been worse than I thought!

I feel so much more "alive" than I have in so many years. I know it's not just losing weight, I really feel much, much, better, and I guess it shows!

Hi all

nice to see all the 4.3's ST

Graham, that's amazing that people say you look so good. But I do know how you must have felt when you wondered what they were thinking before.

So bad weather and sugar really does affect you in such a noticeable way. That's very interesting.

A friend that really fancies me said something odd. He had trouble eating for years so is very underweight. He said I was big. Then changed it to volumptous. Then after recognising he'd said something wrong, tried changing it to 'bigger than him as he is so thin' lol

It's strange because my other friends haven't noticed that I'd put on some weight last year and still seem to be under the impression I am the same all the time. Whenever I talk about my gain they say it's in my imagination. I know it's not as my clothes don't fit and I'm too scared to get on the scales.

I think that when I shift this excess weight I'll feel much better, as you do Graham. Obviously your change of dietary regime has worked really well for you.

Yeah, it's so funny how people have no problem at all saying, "Have you lost weight?", and never say a thing when you start gaining weight (to you, anyhow. They say plenty behind your back.).

ST, I have to wonder, if it's bitterly cold.......WHY would you go out there on purpose???? My crazy dog won't even go out when it's below a certain temperature. She stands at the door and sniffs at the air, looks at me, and then she walks back to her pillow. She always has this expression like "You can go out, I'm staying right here."

Can't you just do some jumping jacks or run circles in the house?

Your dog probably doesn't dress in layers. If I looked out the door naked in bitter cold winter, I'd go back to my pillow, too.

Hi all

Graham how are you doing with the sugar avoidance?

I have once again forgotten about the excercises  at least I'm still walking a lot.
