That made me laugh!

Thanks for the encouragement. I just finished putting all the pots and pans and baking dishes back in the cabinets. I did wipe out the cabinets first. I didn't get rid of anything but I did put things back in a much better way. Stuff that I use regularly now does not require a step stool to reach and things I rarely use are in the step stool needed sections. That's a huge improvement.

And........... (drum roll please!) one of things that is in the easy to reach cupboard is/are ............... my 22 cookbooks. Yeah, cookbook junkie, too. But now that I don't need a step stool to reach them maybe I'll go through them and get rid of some of them.

HUGE progress in the kitchen.

These challenges are really helping me.

And...............when I don't want to do something (anything) I just set the timer for 10 minutes. It makes me laugh, though, that sometimes I go and look at the timer to see how much time is left! Usually, it's 2-3 more minutes and I push through until the timer goes off. If you add up those 2-3 minutes, over time, that really means I'm getting a lot more done than I usually do. I like that.

Yes, cookbooks. That doesn't even touch the hundreds of recipes I've downloaded from the internet. Here's the thing. How many of these recipes have I actually tried? I have decided to try one of these recipes a week and either it will be a keeper or purge the recipe. At least that would be progress.

Donating 10% of the hard cover cookbooks is a start.

Pens and pencils was a quick and easy one (Thank God! Some of the others -- not so quick and easy!)

It's was nice to clean out my mugs that I keep pens/pencils in -- no dead bugs or dust at the bottom!

The one area with pens/pencils he didn't mention checking in was ............ my handbag. I took everything out and found lots of them in the bottom. I dumped everything back in but I did do my own challenge of.............10 minutes to go through my wallet. I took all the cards etc out and put everything back in where it belonged.

The big surprise was............ I had to put "pens" on my shopping list! I actually don't have enough and some that I have are very low on ink.

P.S. One big surprise was emptying my wallet and putting stuff back in, in an organized way, actually took me the ENTIRE 10 MINUTES! And.........one of my plastic cards that should have been there isn't. Yikes! Got to clean that out more often!

Maintaining is always the challenge in organizing. Most of us can summon up the motivation to tackle a big project for a weekend. It is the daily "put it where it belongs" discipline that is something to learn. I think scheduling 10 min on one task is really the only way to keep some kind of order.

I tend to get lazy about cleaning out the dishwasher. So then I pile dishes in the sink. I've been better about it lately and make it a priority. It then becomes easier to keep the kitchen in order as then I put the stuff in the sink in the washer and wipe down the counter/stove.

After Peter's 2015 challenge, if you want to continue on, click on my thread for the 2014 Peter Walsh challenge. Some of the same tasks, but there are others as well. (viewtopic.php?f=38&t=25678)

Peter is coming out with a new book in February.
