Finally lost 10 lbs. South Beach diet. For anyone reading this and caring - there are people who do really well on a low fat diet. I am not one of them. However, the low carb approach works really well. If you're someone who gets cravings for sweets and for starchy foods, and if you've tried a low fat diet and somehow ended up with a bucket of cookies inside of you, you're probably someone who'll do well on a low carb diet. And the craving disappears early on and doesn't come back. And check with your doctor.

I agree, Elaine. Not about "Ooops" but about how low carb rather than low fat works for me.

The body uses insulin to store excess blood sugar as fat. When you switch to a low fat diet, carb calories replace fat calories, which drives blood sugar levels up. Fat needs to be broken down first into sugar and then stored, so it's not an efficient way to gain weight. Also fat induces satiety, while carbs do just the opposite.

For all diets, protein stays about the same. If you get too much, it can overload the kidneys. So most diets don't mess with it too much except to substitute higher fat protein with lower fat protein.

Usually, the folks who do well on low carb diets are Blood Type O.

Hi InspireSuccess,
Actually I was about to write a post inviting people to join a slimming self help schedule. And I saw your post.
Once upon a time I had a beautiful body with right curves. But now I have put on weight. I think I may weigh 72 kilos now and I have to shed off atleast 10 kilos and at best 14 kilos and 3 inches from my hips and thighs. If duly encouraged, I can attain this in one year. But I lack motivation. I do exercises or yoga for a week and skip . Then after 2 months I would start again. So I found out clearly, I need external motivation. I tried gym, yoga class, diet, meditation all sorts. But I cannot maintain more than 2 weeks.
Your post exactly had the same ideas I wanted to write. So I am willing to sign up. Are you still in?
Other than InspireSuccess, is there anybody else willing? Welcome.
Motivated again,
Lalitha.

Hi Lalitha,

I gave up on this thread a long time ago, but I'm totally up for it again, if you are. 10 MINUTES A DAY! That's all we have to do. This is a Barbara Sher approach. Start small.

I think sometimes we try to do too much, too soon. 10 minutes per day is something we can all maintain. Plus, with support it does make it manageable.

Let's do it! Starting tomorrow!

Lalitha,

I think I'll start a new exercise thread. I thought the name of this one was cute and the idea of 10 minutes a day was good but it didn't get much attention. I'll start another one with a different name and let you know.

Hi InspireSuccess,
Happy you haven't given up. Yes. I'm in.
What is the exercise plan? Should we plan together what we will do tomorrow and exchange reviews or we do randomly on our own?
As we haven't decided what we should do today, I plan to do yoga for 10 min and find out how much flexibility I have now.It is Tuesday 11.15 A.M here.
Whatever we do,I think daily without fail we should[must] post what we did.
How long I have been longing for such a motivation! Thank You for your encouragement. :D
Ready to begin,
Lalitha.
