They are suppose to take 10 min. Sometimes it is easier to schedule them all for a weekend. Though, I think Peter's approach is to get you to do alittle bit each day. Whatever works.

I have a hard time with the ten minute limit. Like on shoe day, picking one set of shoes was easy,; but then I wanted to go through all of my shoes......and I would play mental tug-o -war......You know, thinking things like, "My mom gave me these, so I need to wear them next time I visit her, " or " I can't just send these worn out tennis shoes to the landfill, so I need to find a place that will recycle the rubber bottoms. " lol

Not part of Peter Walsh's challenge, but thought it was a good article

I'm with Karla. some of those challenges are more than ten minutes. But I REALLY need to de-clutter. And Pete Walsh is so funny. I just wish the clutter would stay away.

Day 19 - Other people's clutter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnZMYCoFBp8

I think the idea is the same as Barbara's regarding procrastination. You only commit to 10 min and give yourself permission to stop. That way, you at least start. Of course, most things start taking more than 10 min. But that is your choice. The commitment is to 10 min. It helps those "all or nothing" people who never start because they can't finish.

If you've ever used the website "flylady" it is the same idea. You make yourself "rules" or rituals. For example, one of the rules is to never go to bed without cleaning the kitchen sink. So, of course, if the sink is full of dishes, you probably are not going to remove the dishes, wash the sink and put the dirty dishes back. You could, but 99% of us wouldn't. So that means the dirty dishes go in the dishwasher. If you haven't cleaned out the clean dishes from the dishwasher, you have to do that to get the sink empty. Then most people would run a sponge around the counters and maybe the table even though that is more than what the requirement stated. This ritual works on several levels. When you get home, your kitchen is in better shape than had you left the dirty dishes in the sink.

And Tituba, I agree.....I have always like Barbara's "Start small, but start now." I am that procrastinator .....but a little each day really does make a difference!
