Messages truncated during conversion?

Postby redline » Wed May 19, 2004 3:15 pm

A curious thing I've noticed: a few messages that in the old format showed fine are now truncated. One of the new messages I've just posted got truncated as well (but only when posted; the preview screen showed everything as entered: http://www.barbarasher.com/boards/viewt ... c&start=45 , the old msg, for example http://www.barbarasher.com/boards/viewt ... c&start=30) Is it so by design? If so, what is the limitation and how do I see when I'm getting over the limit? Thanks. PS. That's no problem, btw, nothing of great value is lost :). I'm just asking for the future.

for some reason its only allowing about 4k worth of text. I increased the limit... or thought i had. But its still only allowing 4k. For now you'll have to split your post up into parts until i figure out what the problem is. sorry

Thanks, merk. You know, I thought, it might not be a problem (after all, most messages aren't big, and when they are you can always post an additional msg), but it would be good if in those rare cases when you do go over the limit you'd get some kind of warning -- when entering text, or maybe, even during preview (as it is right now, the preview works fine, I guess that's what's deceptive.) Other than such a warning, it's acceptable, I think... come to think of it, having a limit is good in case someone spams the forum.

fyi, i think this is resolved now. Should be able to post something roughly 7-8 pages long now. unfortunately it doesnt give you an error or warning when you go over the limit. But i'll see if i can later stick a bit of java on the page to show you how many characters you can type and how many are left.
