Unity, try and describe the problem in as much detail as you can. It may be something we can straighten out here. If not, I'll e-mail Alex again, but before I do, I'd like to see if we can fix it here, it might be something simple, maybe not. Alex might have to delete Unity1 or something like that, I don't know.

I'm using Firefox

This morning I managed to get back in after a few goes.

Now (6pm) it said password doesn't exist.

I have an idea what could possibly get me back to the old account so will try it now and do a 2nd post in a minute with the verdict.

I'm really sorry for all of the problems you are having. I concur on the recommendation to clear your cache, as well as cookies and saved form data if the latter might now include both usernames. CTRL-SHIFT-DEL will bring up the "Clear personal data" box. If you have useful cookies from other sites you can use the "Delete all board cookies" link at the bottom of this and all board pages.

If you'd like I can delete the Unity1 user to eliminate the possibility of confusion.

The number of login tries exceeded message can be triggered either by actually repeatedly failing to log oneself in, or as a result of automated attacks trying to guess your password. Unfortunately it's hard to determine if something like that is actually happening for your account specifically, because neither the server nor the software logs the right details. But I can tell you that we have similar attacks happening constantly. As we haven't been innundated with spam from trusted users, I assume they always fail. Since the current CAPTCHA is super easy for actual humans, a successful login is all you need to reset the counter.

The log does show that when you started the session in which you made your next to last password change, you first loaded the site as Unity1 and then logged in as Unity. I can only assume that some of the confusing problems you describe happened during that process. I could delete your existing sessions from here, but logging out, then deleting your cookies and clearing your cache should accomplish the same thing in a safer and saner way. Next time you load the site make sure you are logged out and then login as the right user.

If you face any more problems, do exactly as you did and paste the full text of the error message. If it contains anything that might reveal too much, send it to me in a PM.

I hope this clears up for you.

When I first returned to the site I had to go to the new a/c as I couldn't get into the other one. Then I took the advice in the last posts, cleared everything. Then logged out and even switched off the comp.

Came back to the site, couldn't get in.

ST during the one time I did get in the original a/c the password refused to change.

So now I'm Unity1 again.

Try using IE (Internet Explorer) instead of Firefox and see if that works
