Quotes about FORGIVENESS

"Forgiveness is not forgetting an injustice done;
it is understanding that allows us to set aside
the emotional impact of that injustice pertaining to
ourselves. When we no longer hold those emotions,
and have understanding for the person, we have forgiven.
" Moon Singer

"As freely as the firmament embraces the world,
or the sun pours forth impartially his beams,
so mercy must encircle both friend and foe.
" Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller

"When you forgive, you in no way
change the past –
but you sure do change the future
." Bernard Meltzer

"Once a woman has
forgiven her man,
she must not reheat
his sins for breakfast
." Marlene Dietrich

I needed a 5 minute break so here are two quotes that I like. Both, anonymous as far as I know.

Never laugh at your wife's choices. You are one of them.

Just a quick note to say that I'm enjoying this thread!

Oh, regarding this: "Never laugh at your wife's choices. You are one of them."

I always cite our marriage as evidence that my wife is crazy! :)

Hi Square Peg,

Thanks for responding! It's always good to know someone is enjoying them.

I did check out the other quote threads but most of them are from 2000-2006. The only one that was recent (2015) was started by me! Quotes about music.

That's why I thought I'd get a new one going. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm doing some designing involving seashells. Here are some (anonymous) quotes about seashells. And one about going barefoot, which everyone should do when walking on the beach.

I have the world's largest collection of seashells. I keep it on all the beaches of the world. Perhaps you've seen it.

May you always have a shell in your pocket and sand in your toes.

Friends are like seashells. You pick them up along the way.

If you're not barefoot, you're overdressed.

I don't often go to a beach, but I do enjoy walking barefoot in the cool, dew-coated grass on summer mornings!

I go barefoot everywhere. I go barefoot in church! My friend, Jodie, said that when he saw me, he thought to himself, "Someone who goes barefoot in church is someone it would be interesting to know."

Molly, these quotes are for you.

The more I know about men, the more I like dogs. Gloria Allred

My neighbor has two dogs. One of them says to the other, "Woof!" The other replies, "Moo!"
The dog is perplexed. "Moo? Why did you say 'Moo'?" The other dog says, "I'm trying to learn a foreign language."
Morey Amsterdam

It's no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk. Anonymous

They never talk about themselves but listen to you while you talk about yourself, and keep up an appearance of being interested in the conversation. Jerome K. Jerome

Isn't it wonderful how dogs can win friends and influence people without ever reading a book. E.C. McKenzie

Hey, Square Peg, Thanks for what you said about agreeing with Jodie! Here's a slightly longer story about church and barefootery.

After Jodie moved to Texas, I started going to a different church. I became friends with someone named Peggy and we decided to sit with each other in church. I guess I probably didn't mention to you that in addition to being barefoot, I sit in lotus position in churches that have nothing to do with lotus position! Mostly, wooden pews and people sitting up very properly. She thought if I were really a friend, I'd stop doing it. I thought if she were really a friend she would tolerate my little oddities.

I called Jodie to talk it over. He said, “It's in the Bible, you know.” I said, “Really? Where?” He told me when Moses was facing the burning bush, God told him to remove his sandals because he was standing in the presence of God. I was excited and told Peggy about it. She snapped at me, “I don't care if it's in the Bible! I care what my friends think!”

Needless to say, we stopped sitting with each other.

After my quotes about forgiveness, I thought I'd better lighten up for awhile. I didn't want to scare people away, thinking that the quotes were all going to be serious. Now that I've been frivolous for awhile I'm back to some “serious” quotes – this time, about kindness.

"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see."
Mark Twain

"Always be a little kinder than necessary." James M. Barrie

"You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late." Ralph Waldo Emerson

I know it's highly unlikely that Donald Trump is following my Quote for the Day thread, but just in case he is, this one is for you, Donald.

"Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough."
Franklin D. Roosevelt
