Ballet Classes at the age of 62

Yes, I'm 62 years old and I just started taking a ballet class! It's been 40 years since I've taken a ballet class. My mind remembers the steps, but my body says, "You want me to do WHAT"???!!!

I love exercise. Yes, I said that. I know most people don't. I do, but for many years I had problems with my left knee, my right shoulder, both ankles and sometimes my neck. I gave up doing any kind of exercise except for a few yoga stretches.

Thanks to 1.5 years of weekly acupuncture, I have no pain anywhere in my body. So, I'm taking advantage of that and will slowly build up to reclaiming all I've lost.

I'm rereading Barbara's Live the Life You Love and was reminded of B.'s approach of doing ANYTHING that moves you forward -- even if it's only a few minutes per day.

Here's what I want to (slowly) reclaim:

Ballet
Running
Aerobics
Weights
Swimming

Ballet
I'm already taking a one-hour class per week

Running
I don't like walking, but I like jogging and running. So far, I'm doing a very short walk/jog/walk/jog. I'm not timing it. I'm not setting any goals. Whenever it pops into my mind I go outside and walk/jog. My guess is it's probably 10 minutes total. But like Barbara says, ANYTHING COUNTS!

Aerobics
Once I get a DVD player (soon) I can start my exercise DVDs, which I love.

Weights
This is easy. I'm supposed to be doing this for my shoulder problem so I'll just start doing it again.

Swimming is a long way down the line. But everything else on my list can be done a little at a time.

Just so you know, I'm not the type of person who goes full steam ahead on this stuff. I'm a firm believer in Barbara''s approach of a few minutes per day.

I intend to enjoy all of this stuff and going slowly is the way to enjoy it.

Wish me luck!

Awesome! I'd read that weight training is very beneficial for us older folks because our muscles tend to atrophy more quickly.
