May 19th was yoga.

What does "regular set" mean?

I went to the chiropractor today. I won't be able to exercise for 3 days. I plan on doing 10 minutes of yoga breathing exercises until I can start regular exercising.

I won't be online until I start exercising again. Keep up the good work!

I agree. I've found that 20 minutes is what I can handle right now. I'll raise it to 30 minutes when I'm ready. I did notice that I walked 2x in one week which is my goal. I'm glad of that.

When I do my 10 minutes of yoga I focus on doing either more reps than I usually do or new and different postures. I always add my usual 10-15 minute routine, but I don't count it because it's something I automatically do every day. The point of my 10 minutes here is to do something new and different to challenge myself in new directions or to push myself to do more reps of my usual postures.

You've inspired me to do head to knee every day but still haven't touched my knee yet.

See you in 3 days.

Hi Inspire,
Wish your visit to chiropractor turns out to be happy and healthy.
Regular set means what I was doing when we started this 10 min schedule i.e. warm ups extended as exercises.
Yesterday May 20 Monday I didn't do my quota.
Feeling depressed and emotionally drained. I too am going to take some time away from internet. Meanwhile I will be doing my 10 min without fail[I hope].
So see you soon.

Hello my dear, I'm back again. Monday was not a good day for you. What about Tues-Thursday?

My plan of doing 10 minutes a day of yoga breathing exercises did not go well. Just like physical exercise, I'm out of practice with the breathing exercises. Could barely get through 5 minutes per day. I'm sure the walking will help my breathing and I'll be able to do the yoga breathing again. I remembered 4 different ones. I'll have to google and see if there are others that I've forgotten or never knew.

I'm recovered from my chiropractic treatment. I did a 20 minute walk today.

Let me know how you're doing.

Saturday. 20 minute walk. Even though I'm only walking 2x per week I can tell it's getting easier, which feels good.

Lalitha, how are you doing?

Hi Inspire,
I'm back. This week just wandering through clouds. No decent improvement in exercise.

What is a chiropractor? Any ortho specialist or physio therapist? As you mentioned pain, I thought it was a physio therapy. Could you get mustard seed oil in your country? If not, are you anywhere near Indian stores?

About myself, as I said no exercise on Monday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday managed to do cycling. Then again relapse. Friday and Saturday, I wanted to do cycling. If it can count, then every day I'm doing 11/2 hours of yoga. Today, May 25 Sunday I did cycling.
Other than this,in this week, I have been doing heavy workout for 2-3 mins 4 times a day.

Why are you upset that you can maintain only 5 mins of yoga breathing? 5 mins means 300 seconds and every second counts in yoga breathing. My level is also 5 mins and I'm really proud that I can concentrate on my breathing for 300 seconds at a stretch. And an important point. You said you would google diff types of yoga breathing. Though I appreciate your enthusiasm in yoga breathing, you should do only what your teacher taught you in person. All yoga breathing are not for everyone. Only your teacher knows what type is good for your body and attitude and even in that type how much you can handle. Some types of yoga breathing can increase body heat whereas some can drastically decrease. Some types boost metabolism, when some can completely shut it down. Even the simplest Nadi suddhi [inhale, hold and exhale] has its ratios according to your eligibility and practice and it can seriously alter your body condition, on heavier ratios. So unauthorised practice may lead to danger than good. So be careful. You can do simple basic breathings according to your capacity. If you want I can explain some harmless breathing techniques I learnt from my teacher.

Hi Lalitha. A chiropractor is similar to a physical therapist. They manipulate the bones in the neck and spine. It's good to not do any exercise for a few days to allow the body to adjust to the manipulation.

I'm self-taught with yoga through books and TV shows. I used to do yoga breathing daily. I liked a variety of types. I'm just out of practice. I have no money for a private teacher.

I'm pleased that I was able to walk 2x last week. I hope I can do that this week. I'm starting to like it now that it's getting a little easier.

I'm glad you're back. It's hard to stay motivated without your help!

Hi Inspire,
Our team is mutually benefited. I really wanted somebody to motivate me to exercise and I am lucky I got you.
Then again, two peas in the same pod. I too started doing yoga inspired from a book when I was 19. Then when I was 34, we moved to a small town and there I joined a yoga class. I learnt a little bit more here but that class didn't suit my needs. So I quit. After a long time, I went to Krishnamachariyar Yoga Mandiram [KYM] to find cure for my everlasting fatigue. If you enter here as a patient, you are given only 4 classes at selected intervals in one on one basis. I attended only three and was unable to go for the final one. But this centre is a genuine one and I learnt the real way of doing yoga here, what a hundred books cannot teach. So I want to share them with you.
These are the basic things I learnt here.
1. The main diff of yoga from any workout is the method of breathing during the physical exertion. No panting. If your breath becomes difficult, you rest till it become normal for the next try. Strictly no rush.
2. The coordination of spine, head, limbs and breath. It is very important.
3. No pose should be compelled on the body.
4. Body must be allowed to achieve the pose on its own pace.[But strictly no laziness]
Till then, what you are able to do is that particular pose for you. [If you are not able to keep your nose between your knees in Padha hastasanam and your head two inches away from the knees is your limit, then the bending and keeping your head two inches away is your Padhahastasanam for you, till your muscles flex enough to attain the perfect position.]

Then the expense for yoga class is heavier in India too. So there is no surprise about its cost in abroad.
I too learnt my Nadi suddhi without a master, but I daily saw my father doing it thrice a day, as a part of his spiritual offerings. But I didn't learn from him. I started by surrendering myself mentally to the Great Guru of our clan and to this day, whenever I do, it had been fine.

So don't worry you didn't join a class. But for yoga breathing, you need a master. So if you can't get anyone in person, have faith and pray your favourite deity to lead you through the yoga breathing and start. At the ending mentally you submit whatever you achieved today in the lotus feet of your deity. This is the way to be safe. This may seem funny for atheists, but it is the procedure. Yoga breathing is definitely not religious, but surely spiritual.

Thanks for the yoga info. Sometime I'll share how I learned the breathing techniques I use. Good luck today. I'm feeling glum. Was going to walk but the weather is so dreary and cold and dark. I might walk anyway if I can convince myself. If not, I'm doing some leg exercises a few minutes at a time throughout the day.
